No wonder

No wonder they are by Royal Decree protected.
My mated pair of Mute Swans I saw once more.
These two elegant creatures I have studied before.
The only swans I have seen of late;
Are these, yes, female and her mate.
They silently were feeding on the green carpet of Duckweed.
I am sure they were enjoying a tasty feed.
Many butterflies were fluttering.
Not a sound they were uttering.
Some white as the wings of the Swans.
Others bearing colourful patterns for my eyes to dwell upon.
Painted Lady, Peacock, Red Admiral, Comma and others of smaller dsign.
As I walked I took note on the path of the shadow of mine.
Above my head a small shadow followed me.
I looked in the air and a white butterfly, I could see.
If they bare black spots they are female, the males are void of spots.
This enables them to be recognised on the wing, I saw quite a lot.
I stood a while by the inlet of water, quietly on my own.
Watching Coots and Moorhens with young definitely more grown.
The Coot wears a white cap, the Moorhen wears red.
They were walking on the Duckweed, must have a light tread.
The Bramble flowers are blooming, autumn will bring the fruit.
Have to say all my sightings on this walk were "kind of cute".
